Taking Charge of Our Lives: Healing from the Inside Out
We all need healing in one form or another. Whether this healing is emotional, physical, financial or spiritual is up to each of us, and probably even the day or the hour, or even how we view it. We are a work in progress, and we continue to build and refine what already exists.
you are the boss
Contrary to what we have been told, or taught, no one can “make” us do anything. We make the decision whether or not to accept someone else’s request or order. Our refusal to cooperate or obey will have consequences, but we always have the final say…even if the consequence is the death of a friendship or a job, or even our own death. Ultimately, we are each the boss of ourselves.
In the field of healing, this is also true. Your health is in your hands. For example, if your doctor tells you to quit smoking, or eat healthier foods, or exercise, or recommends medical treatment or surgery…it’s up to you. whether or not doctor’s advice. . You are the boss of yourself.
So based on that, we see that all healing starts with us. No matter what advice we receive, what knowledge we have, what research we do, we must act ourselves to make it all work. We choose the path to take, the attitude to take, the direction in which we are going. The path may not lead us directly to the solution we seek, but we always choose the path ourselves taking all angles into consideration.
Take his life in his hands
It’s easy to blame others or circumstances for anything that doesn’t flow in our lives. But since we are solely responsible for ourselves and our lives, we disempower ourselves when we blame others.
The way out of this is to recognize that we made, and are making, the decisions that led to the life we live. It can be difficult to admit that we are responsible for everything that happens in our lives. It’s so much easier to blame others – be it a husband or wife, children, our boss, our colleagues, our government, etc.
But if we want to make changes in our lives, if we want things to improve, we have to recognize the things we need to stop doing, as well as what we need to do. By taking charge, we remove the blocks created by blame, judgment, and lack of accountability. We get out of our head with its doubts, fears, judgments, etc., and empower ourselves to create the life we truly desire.
To be, not to fight
We were mostly taught that to achieve our dreams, we have to work hard, struggle and take the hard road. But what if it’s not true?
What if the road to success, in all areas of our lives, relied on trusting our hearts to guide us in the right direction? If we are floating in a river, we may get there sooner if we swim, but we will also get there exhausted and may not enjoy the trip as much.
Let’s ask ourselves… is it more important to reach the goal sooner, or is it more important to enjoy the journey as we head in that direction. Each person has to make their own choice, but maybe we can step away from the struggle and instead live in the moment. We can be true to ourselves while moving towards our goals.
How’s your breathing going right now?
Breath is the source of life, so to take charge of our life, we must also take charge of our breath. Once we have retrained ourselves on how to breathe fully, we can leave it natural. But for now, at least for me, I’m learning to focus on my breathing and remembering to take slow, steady breaths. Enter exit. Enter exit.
I find that when I’m stressed, or focused on something, or sometimes even thinking hard about something, I tend to hold my breath or breathe very shallowly. The body then does not receive the oxygen it needs to function at its best. Even as I write this, I find I tend to hold my breath concentrating on what I’m going to say.
Just as we exercise our body, we need to exercise our breathing and thus retrain ourselves to breathe fully throughout the day, whether we are relaxed or stressed. So whenever you’re waiting – on the phone, or in line, or for an appointment, or for an app or web page to load – focus on your breath… inspiration, expiration, expiration. Fill the belly with the inhale and flatten it with the exhale. As with everything, the more we practice, the more naturally it will come and we will have regained the power of the breath.
See the possibilities
Sometimes we can face the complete destruction of a project or a dream. Or we may be missing key elements to achieve our dream. It’s time to be creative and make the best use of what we have.
Sometimes things don’t go the way we want them to. Yet even when we face a roadblock or a health crisis, we must look at the possibilities. Perhaps the detour is a scenic route that will allow for some fun and relaxation. Or maybe the disease will open us up to a whole new perspective we didn’t even know existed.
We never know why something or someone is placed or taken out of our way. We need to be open to all possibilities…even ones we never considered before.
Reinvent your life
It’s easy to get stuck in a rut or a “that’s the way it is” attitude. But just because something has “always” been a certain way, or because it is so now, doesn’t mean it has to be so tomorrow or in the future.
We can take control of our lives by reimagining our future. Stop for a minute and imagine what you would like your life to look like…at work, at home, in terms of health, community, etc. etc Open yourself up to wonderful possibilities.
Every morning and evening, and more often if you can, take a few moments to reimagine your life as you would like it to be, for the greater good of you and those you love. Let’s reimagine the world we want to live in, then help make it happen.
you are the answer
Each of us is different, so the solution to the same problem can be very different for different individuals. Introverted or extroverted, healthy or unhealthy, mother or single adult… everyone will have different lifestyles and needs, and therefore different solutions. The key is for us to find what is the unique solution for us.
When I was younger, I used to flip a coin when I didn’t know what choice to make. However, my goal was not to have the piece “make the decision”, but to help me discover what I wanted. If the coin landed on “yes” and I felt disappointed, then I knew the other side of the coin was the “right answer”, for me.
We always know, from within, what is best for us. We are the only ones who really know. Sometimes we just need help clearing the cobwebs of our vision (inside and out) to see what the “best next step” is for us. We are the answer. We are our own medicine. We are our own adviser and adviser. Once we take charge of our lives, paying attention to and honoring our needs and emotions, ideas and guidance will follow.
