Ingredients
– 1 passport photo of yourself
– 1 pebble the size of a kiwi
– 8 sticks (or cones) of rose-scented incense
– Glue
Ritual
On a First Quarter Moon evening (see Commentary 2), write your first name in red ink on the front of your photo. Then write the words “YIN YANG” under your first name.
- With glue, adhere the photo from the back to the pebble, then place the pebble on a table, the photo facing up. Install 1 stick of incense next to the pebble, concentrate on the wisps of smoke and pronounce 5 times out loud: “I conjure the Yin and Yang Energies, which attract and harmonize eternally, to help me to get rid of my bad habit, which is (name it)”.
- Then leave all the supports in place, and the incense must burn out completely.
- Thereafter, each evening, until the next Full Moon (see Commentary 5), light 1 stick of incense near the pebble, pronounce the same incantation 5 times, with maximum concentration.
- Keep the pebble with the picture on your bedside table or near your bed until the day of the Last Quarter Moon, after which you can part with it.

-
- This ritual is particularly effective in helping you kick a bad habit.
- There is a First Quarter Moon and a Last Quarter Moon every month. Be careful not to be mistaken. The Quarters are indicated in the ephemeris calendars (calendar of the Post office, for example) by small crescents: the crescent whose back is turned towards your right side symbolizes the First Quarter, while the crescent whose back is turned towards your side left symbolizes the Last Quarter. A mnemonic device: draw a small line that passes through the ends of a crescent; if you get the letter “p”, then it is indeed a First Quarter, the day when you can start this ritual; but if you roll a lowercase “d”, then it is a Last Quarter and that is the day this ritual must end. This trick is also valid when looking at a crescent moon in the sky.
- It would be ideal if you can write the words “YIN YANG” in Chinese ideograms.
- If you are a believer, you can pray now for a few minutes; the simplest words will be the best. You can also indulge in a brief meditation.
- There is a Full Moon every month. Consult an ephemeris calendar to know the days of the Full Moon. There must be 7 or 8 days between a First Quarter Moon and a Full Moon. There must also be 7 or 8 days between a Full Moon and a Last Quarter Moon.
